LABBIPET’S FACE TO CHANGE WITH CONVENTION CENTRE.

Labbipet is one of the oldest residential areas in Vijayawada. And in two year’s time, the area’s façade is set to witness a sea change with a swanky convention centre and a four-star hotel coming up.

Thanks to the hospitality sector cashing in on Amaravati blitz, some of the areas in the city are set to get a makeover with new ventures setting up shop. And in a first-ever concept of having a convention centre and star hotel in the same compound, Shoreview Private Ltd is planning to make the convention center available by March 2017 and the Green Park star hotel by summer of 2018.“We will have both the convention centre and the hotel ready in two years. The convention centre will be equipped with all the modern facilities including audio-video technology. The aim is to not just provide a center for marriage but cater to all kinds of events”., said proprietor of the venture Sharan Valluru. The hotel will have 106 rooms and the convention centre can host at least 2000 people.

The venture is pegged at an estimated Rs.50 crore and will be coming up in a sprawling two acres in the lane opposite PVP Mall on MG Road.

Not just private players, the government is also trying to cash in on the euphoria in the capital region. That is precisely the reason why the state transport department is planning a go-karting track in Gannavaram.

According to sources in the department, the go-karting track will be coming up in the vacant space available at the integrated vehicle testing centre (IVTC) in Gannavaram where the applicants go to give their licence test. The venture will be coming up in five acres.

“We have taken up studies on the technicalities involved in setting up the track. The surveys will be completed within a month”, said a senior official. The works are likely to begin by the end of the current fiscal year, the official added.

Besdies serving as a recreation centre, this would also generate funds for department’s utilization. Apart from the go-karting track, a hotel, restaurant and skating facilities will also be available for the citizens. “Designs have also been made and a presentation will be done soon to the higher-ups. In any case, by the end of March, the works should begin”, the official averred.

It may be noted here that groups like Marriott, Hyatt, Sheraton, Sarovar and Keyes also have made plans to establish their ventures in the capital region. “More than five groups have expressed a desire to set up their business here. A clear picture is yet to come out and once the detailed plan of the capital is out we will get to know more”, said a member of Vijayawada Hotel Owners’ Association.

Association sources, however, said Novotel has dropped its plans to establish a star hotel.

“While the reasons are not known, the Novotel group isn’t coming up with its ventures at the proposed site opposite Vinayaka theatre”, a member said. This would make Green Park the newest four-star hotel to come up in the city.
